Food bank project for needy

KOTA KINABALU: Caritas St Simon Likas began their Food Bank project in July with the distribution of food baskets to the needy in the community.

This was in response to the hardship and loss of income faced by many due to the prolonged lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Appeal for donations from parishioners resulted in generous contributions in cash and kind – where dried food items were delivered almost daily to the hall by St Simon parishioners and some donors from outside.

Caritas members volunteered to pack the food baskets over the next few weeks and these were distributed by volunteers and Taman leaders to the needy in the Likas area as well as beyond, responding to requests for assistance in those particular areas.

Good to go: Food baskets ready to be delivered.

Caritas, which means “a generous love”, was indeed manifested through the cheerful giving of all involved through their donations, contributions, time and service.

Thank you all for your generosity and kindness. May God bless you always. – Vera Chin
