KOTA KINABALU: The chief shepherd of the archdiocese here exhorted the faithful to join the livestream Mass of the Ascension of the Lord on the weekend of May 23/24.
“For pastoral reason, Ascension Day this year is to be celebrated on the weekend of May 23/24 to allow more participation in live-streaming Mass,” Archbishop John Wong said in the statement (below) issued on May 13.
In response to Pope Francis’ call to seek God’s power and mercy for a way out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the prelate also urged Catholics in the archdiocese to observe a day of prayer, fasting and almsgiving on May 14 (Thursday).
“In union with the Holy Father and to respond to his call, I invite all Catholics in this Archdiocese to say the Rosary together as a family, fasting and giving alms to your needy neighbours on that day,” the archbishop said.
Meanwhile, St Simon Catholic Church Likas rector Fr Cosmas Lee said the parishioners can choose their own time to say the Rosary with their families, since some people have been called back to work during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) period.
