KOTA KINABALU: The rector of St Simon Catholic Church Likas extended his heartfelt gratitude to individuals who donated voluntarily following the suspension of public Masses and parish activities since March 15.
In his statement (bottom) dated April 19, Fr Cosmas Lee said within the first two weeks of the suspension, “individuals started coming in to pass their donations to the parish without being asked”.
“We thank God for their care and thoughts in the absence of our usual Sunday donations. We have made Online Donations possible since April 12,” Fr Cosmas said. “A number of parishioners have responded generously.”
“Even as we begin to give a weekly report of donations received, we urge all parishioners to remember their financial commitment to the parish,” he said, adding that the donations are on a volunteer-basis.
“We are very aware, that many indeed are facing dire financial difficulties. However, as in any good Christian community, we should always contribute each according to his means.
“This financial support should reflect our commitment to our Faith, regular and on-going, in good and bad times.”
Fr Cosmas said such commitment will help the parish to provide continuing services.
“We are thinking particularly of the poor and needy in these most difficult times. Remember, we will never outdo the generosity of God.”
