KOTA KINABALU: As part of St Simon Catholic Church Likas parish’s ongoing efforts to ensure the protection and well-being of the community, a fire safety briefing and demonstration was held, here, Nov 17.
The campaign, led by the parish’s Safety and Security Chairperson Romulo Sulit in cooperation with the Fire and Rescue Department, Lintas branch, was carried out at the hall.

The objectives of the briefing and demonstration are to enhance the fire safety awareness among the parishioners and to equip them with the basic knowledge in handling circumstances during emergencies through practical training and briefing.
It was also held to strengthen the working relationship between the Parish Safety and Security Committee and Fire and Rescue Department.
At the briefing, the Department deployed a team of personnel for the exercise headed by the Operation Officer, PB Sutijo Haji Salamat. They conducted an in-depth briefing on the fire safety measures and fire extinguishing demonstration.

Arthur Sebangkit, who was in-charge of the event, said: “The safety of our parishioners, visitors and staff is always our top priority.“
He further explained the importance of the two Fire Assembly Points located near the entrance and side entrance of the Church.
After the morning service, some 70 parishioners gathered at the parish hall entrance to participate in the briefing and demonstration. – by Tracy Lim
