“Let the Children Come to Me (Matthew 19:14).” This personal invitation from our Lord stirred the hearts of the catechists in the Ministry of Faith Formation for Children (Sunday School) of St Simon Catholic Church, Likas, at the recent Solemnity of the Most Precious Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi).
The ministry hoped that through the event, it would help the children to know how much Jesus loves them – to remember that Jesus suffered and died so that He could come to us through Holy Eucharist. What better way to do this than to have a children’s Eucharistic Adoration on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi!
Some 300 Sunday School community gathered in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel for the adoration – students from seven years old to 16 years old, accompanied by their teachers.
Parish priest Rev Fr Cosmas Lee led the adoration and guided those present to focus their attention on the Blessed Sacrament, throughout the adoration.
As we made our first bow led by Fr Cosmas, before the Blessed Sacrament and at the words “Jesus is here”, everyone from the youngest to the oldest remained still on their knees. Children were led to remember the presence of Mother Mary, adoring her Son with us as we recited one decade of the holy Rosary.
The adoration incorporated three bows and short periods of silence, each ending with a song and praying the Acts of Faith, Contrition, Hope and Love.
At the third bow, Fr Cosmas led the children to adore and thank Jesus. The adoration ended with the Benediction where children sang the Divine Praises, Down In Adoration and O Jesus We Adore Thee before being blessed by the rector.
We, the Ministry of Faith Formation for Children (Sunday School) at the parish, give thanks and praise to God for the grace of leading the children to adore Him in the Holy Eucharist on this most wonderful feast. We hope that we will be able to continue to help them grow in faith as they journey with us in Sunday School.
