Increasingly, we are receiving requests for Masses to be said daily for the living or the dead for long and continuous periods of days, for up to a month and beyond. We feel that this is overdoing it. Every Mass is infinite in grace, and there is no need to multiply them to some unreasonable number especially when the person who has requested the intention is not present at those Masses to pray for the same intention.
With immediate effect, we shall limit each Mass Intention Request (one Mass Intention Envelop) to a maximum of one week (7 days) as we announced some years ago.
There is no obligation to mention individual names and intentions for the living or dead in the Eucharistic Prayer. Indeed, this is done only at Ritual Masses (e.g. Ordination, Marriage and funeral Masses). In this parish we do not mention names or intentions on Sundays, major feast days, or when there is a large congregation, so as not to give the impression that the Mass is exclusive in any way.
For daily Masses, however, we do mention a noteworthy intention sometimes at the beginning of the Mass. From now on, however, only names of the dead on their significant anniversaries shall be mentioned in the Eucharistic Prayer. All requested intentions however are offered, whenever possible, on the dates requested. All parishioners please take note.
